Use What You Have

Have you ever wanted to do something but you keep putting it off until the timing is right? Or you think there’s something you’re supposed to do, but you’re waiting until you have everything you think you need? Or you’re trying to do something but it’s not going the way you want because you think the things you have just aren’t good enough? I’ll wait until the kids are out of school. I’ll wait until we have more money. I’ll wait until work slows down and I have more time. It would be better if we had a bigger building. It would be better if we had more people. It would be better if we had more money. If we wait until everything is just perfect before we do something, we’re never going to do it because it will never be perfect. There will always be something that gets in the way or tries to prevent us from doing the things God wants us to do. Exodus 4:2 Then the Lord asked him, “What is that in your hand?” “A shepherd’s staff,” Moses replied. When God wanted Moses to return to Egypt to set His people free, He didn’t tell Moses to wait until he was ready. He didn’t tell Moses to wait until he was a better speaker. He didn’t tell Moses to go and find weapons and warriors to go with him. He told Moses to take what was in his hand and go. It’s a step of faith to go with nothing and to go when we don’t feel prepared. When we do this, we are trusting that God will take care of things and that what we have will be good enough. Mark 6:8 He told them to take nothing for their journey except a walking stick—no food, no traveler’s bag, no money. Jesus also sent the disciples out with nothing but a staff. He didn’t want excuses, and He didn’t want them to wait until everything was perfect. He just wanted them to trust Him and to go. It’s a step of faith to use what you have, even if it’s only a little. If you have a small building instead of a large one, use it. If you have only 10 people instead of 100, use them. Use what you have, even if it’s not as much as you’d like. You do what you can do, with what you have, and God will do the rest.
